Statewide Surveys Reveal that Golf Brings More than 2.7 Million to South Carolina
05.5.10 02:42 PM

We know that you love visiting Myrtle Beach South Carolina and the famed coastal region of South Carolina for the extraordinary Myrtle Beach Golf Courses and fantastic deals on Golf Packages in Myrtle Beach. It's a fact that the state relies heavily on its tourism industry and the latest numbers released related to golf's impact on the Palmetto State's tourism reveal that the sport of golf contributes a remarkable sum. The year 2007 is the last year for which industry sources have complete data; once analyzed it was found that the sport's overall impact on the state's money resources is somewhere in the ballpark of $2.7 billion annually. That's a pretty incredible number! It was found that SC Golf provided some 33,000 golf industry related jobs to the state. That meant that more than $834 million dollars a year went to service personnel, golf course techs, and other positions in the industry. As a result of this thriving economy, more than $276 million dollars were generated in federal, state and local taxes. The green fees and club membership dues alone bring in $12 million or more to the state as these transactions are subject to admission taxes. It was also found that vacationers and visitors that come to the state annually for golf vacations and to enjoy the fantastic leisure lifestyle afforded by the many SC Golf Clubs and South Carolina Golf Communities spend an estimated $1.2 million dollars a year. That's an incredible figure when you take into account that the figures they used to create the statistics were only related to lodging prices, food cost, and other types of golf retail sales.

Because the sport has such an incredible impact on the state, South Carolina celebrates SC Golf Week each April. It always begins right after the Heritage Classic PGA Golf Tour Event. During this year's weeklong events, these numbers were released and the South Carolina Golf Association presented one of the Bluffton SC Golf Courses, The Colleton River Plantation, with its Club of the Year award. This South Carolina Golf Club is home to two phenomenal Bluffton Golf Courses. Bluffton South Carolina is a special Low Country SC spot nestled right near the famed SC Golf spot of Hilton Head Island South Carolina. Both Bluffton and Beaufort are home to some great Beaufort SC Golf Courses, and of course, some of the most prestigious and award winning South Carolina Golf Courses can be found in the Hilton Head Golf Resorts.
