10th Annual BMW Charity Golf Tournament Kicks Off
05.13.10 03:18 PM

The 10th Annual BMW Charity Pro-Am 2010 Greenville BMW Golf Tournament, an event on the PGA Nationwide Circuit, kicks off today and lasts until Sunday, May 16, 2010. Presented and sponsored by the SYNNEX Corporation, the BMW Charity Golf Tournament is an annual SC Golf tournament that benefits several Upstate South Carolina charities. Each year the event grows and more celebrities show up to help out, and we are sure that the celebs and SC Golfers participating in this year’s four-day event will love playing at three fantastic SC Golf Courses: The Carolina Country Club, Bright’s Creek Golf Club, and the Thornblade Club Golf Course. Reportedly, celebrities such as Kurt Russell, Catherine Bell, Joe Don Rooney of the country music band Rascal Flatts, and NFL Hall of Famer Jerry Rice will be playing with the pros to generate money for charity. If this year’s event is anything like last year’s event, which raised nearly $700,000 dollars for local charities, we are sure it will be a huge success.

The 2010 BMW Golf Tournament is arranged as a three-course rotation is played at a slow pace as 168 professional golfers are paired with 168 amateurs and celebrities for three rounds. Included in those 168 professionals that are going to appear are five former Clemson golf team members, a handful of former USC Gamecocks from the USC golf team, and William McGirt, a PGA Tour rookie and local Upstate SC boy that played for Wofford College (class of ’01). We wish all of the players the best and this event in years past has spawned successful careers for pros such as Michael Christie, Jonathan Byrd, and Charles Warren. Native son, McGirt has enjoyed three top-ten finishes in four starts and is ranked No. 17 currently on the circuit’s list. At the end of the circuit, the top 25 of the season earn passes to the PGA Tour! Good luck McGirt and others that are natives from the Palmetto State.

You will definitely be familiar with the celebrities showing up at this year’s BMW Golf Tournament. “Captain Ron” Kurt Russell needs no introductions after starring in several major motion pictures, TV shows and being the celebrity partner to Hollywood legend Goldie Hawn over the years, and Catherine Bell has starred on television shows such as JAG and Army Wives. Also, scheduled to be at the South Carolina Golf Tournament is the famous actor, Terry O’Quinn from the TV show Lost, and Clemson football head coach, Dabo Swinney.
