Heritage PGA Tournament Gets Royal Bank Sponsor
07.27.11 09:53 AM

Next year's Heritage PGA Tour tournament will not be without a sponsor as it was last year thanks in large part to community and business efforts to ensure that the event would be played at Harbour Town Golf Links at Sea Pines Resort on Hilton Head Island in South Carolina. Verizon Wireless dropped its sponsorship of The Heritage Tournament at the end of the 2010 tournament and last year’s event was sponsored by donations and community business owners and patrons. This year’s tournament will be not have to endure the same fate now that the Royal Ban of Canada has signed a 5 year contract to the be tournament’s title sponsor. The Boeing Company will serve as The Heritage’s local presenting sponsor. The tournament name will now be the RBC Heritage Tournament.

The Heritage Tournament is a storied PGA Tour tournament that contributes a great deal to the tournament and to the area’s fame and tourism. RBC Bank is the fifth largest financial institution and those speaking on behalf of the bank have remarked at their intention to sponsor the tournament for years to come. The tournament contributes $82 million in local and regional state economies and has awarded local charities with about $20 million in donations since beginning in 1987.

Past champions of The Heritage Tournament reads like a list of who’s who in golf history and includes players such as Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, Bernhard Langer, Payne Stewart, Greg Norman and Hale Irwine. Davis Love III has made headlines by winning the tournament five times! Famed for being low key and family friendly, players that have played in the tournament describe it as a very different atmosphere than the Augusta tournament.
