AzaleaGolf presents the Maverick National Amateur Championship
08.20.09 03:00 PM

Southern Pines – During the month of October, AzaleaGolf will have a charity golf tournament to benefit the Hollings Cancer Center as well as the Armed Forces of the United States. The first stage of the tournament will be held from October 2nd through the 4th in Southern Pines NC. The final stage of the tournament will be held from the 16th to the 18th at Ocean Course at Kiawah Island Golf Resort in Charleston SC.

AzaleaGolf has founded this tournament in honor of the work of Michael J. Strantz, who was treated by the Hollings Cancer Center and was lost to cancer in 2005. Strantz was one of the greatest golf course architects in the history of golf. Also adding to the purposes of this tournament, AzaleaGolf has founded the Home & Home Program, which was created so that veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces could play free rounds of golf while they are back at home.

There will be approximately 64 teams, each of which will play five rounds of golf for the chance to win $15,000 in prizes! Possible prizes could be hotel and airfare to Los Angeles to attend the 2010 Northern Trust Open, a trip to the Masters, golf equipment, golf packages and much more!

To start the tournament off, there will be a Charity Skills Challenge event that will take place the day players arrive at the Tot Hill Farm Golf Club in Asheboro NC. This skills challenge is a quick and simple way of contributing your money to the charities hosting this event, as well as a way to get the golfers’ competitive spirits flowing. There will be six skill areas set up at the course challenging all the skills a golfer uses. Only one attempt at winning a prize is permitted, but golfers are allowed an unlimited amount of mulligans with a donation of $5.00 towards the charities for each mulligan; golfers may also attempt bonus shots for a donation of $10.00.

Those interested in entering this tournament can choose one of five entry options: direct entry, existing qualifiers, sign up with an AzaleaGolf prospective qualifier near you, organize your own qualifier at your local course, or organize your own independent qualifier.

In order to cater to all the golfers in this tournament Azalea Golf is using five different Golf Courses in North Carolina and South Carolina Golf Courses to host the Maverick Championship. Listed below are the events and the dates on which they will occur:

Stage One:

• October 2nd
- Golfers arrive in Southern Pines
- Golfers may practice at either the Tot Hill Farm Golf Club in Asheboro NC or Tobacco Road Golf   Club in Sanford NC
- Charity Skills Challenge

- Early morning begins the First round of golf played at Tot Hill Farm Golf Club

• October 4th
- Second Round begins in the morning at the Tobacco Road Golf Club in Sanford NC
- Quarterfinals held at Tobacco Road Golf Club
- Teams that have been eliminated have an optional free game at Tot Hill Farm Golf Club And Tobacco Road Golf Club

Final Stage:

• October 16th
- Players arrive in Myrtle Beach SC at the Waters Edge Resort or True Blue Plantation
- Practice round is available at Caledonia Golf Club Pawleys Island

• October 17th
- Early morning begins the Semi-Finals at Caledonia Golf Club
- Winners of the semi-finals will take a luxurious limo from Myrtle Beach SC to Kiawah Island SC where they will enjoy a deluxe stay at The Sanctuary Hotel

• October 18th
- Championship hosted by The Ocean Course at Kiawah Island Golf Resort

Participating in this tournament serves many purposes. The Hollings Cancer Center will be able to focus not only on cancer care, research, education, and community outreach, but also on other goals, such as prevention of disparities in rural areas, teaching the public about prevention, the development of behavioral research, and becoming known by the National Cancer Institute as a leader in knowledge of the disease. In addition to this, the Home & Home Program will be funded mainly by donations made at the Charity Skills Challenge at the Tot Hill Farm Golf Club.

In addition to helping the Hollings Cancer Center and the Home & Home Program, there are many benefits to participating in this event. Think about getting the experience of amazing accommodations, playing at top golf courses such as The Ocean Course at Kiawah Island in Kiawah Island South Carolina, Tot Hill Golf Club in Asheboro NC, Caledonia Golf Course Pawleys Island, Tobacco Road Golf Club in Sanford NC, and also the True Blue Plantation in Pawleys Island SC. All these courses are highly ranked in some way or another and are considered top golf courses in the United States, except for True Blue Plantation, which is ranked the best public Golf Course in South Carolina.

Those who want to participate in the Maverick National Amateur Championship, who are willing to donate their time and money to help the Hollings Cancer Center and the Home & Home Program, and who are interested in winning some extraordinary prizes can email ContactUs2@azaleagolf.com for more information or visit their website at www.azaleagolf.com/MavAmHome.shtml.
